NHU was founded in 1981 to meet the education needs of
Hispanic students. It offers a diverse portfolio of undergraduate
and certificate programs in business, education and information

and supportive learning environment. The 11-acre campus
is located in California’s Silicon Valley. NHU is

and Colleges. More than 500 students attend NHU.
“We are pleased to welcome the students, faculty
and staff of NHU to the Laureate International Universities
network,” said Douglas L. Becker, chairman and
chief executive officer of Laureate Education. “Both
NHU and Laureate share a commitment to offering higher
education with a unique multicultural perspective and to
preparing our students for careers and lifelong achievement.
We also share the belief that when our students succeed,
countries prosper and communities benefit. Together, we
will further enhance and expand opportunities for Hispanic
students here in the United States and abroad.”
NHU joins a global community of more than 50 institutions
with nearly 600,000 students around the world. Laureate
International Universities offer more than 130-career
focused undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree
programs in a variety of fields including education, business,
information technology, law and medicine.
“Laureate is already deeply committed to serving
Hispanic students, which is illustrated by its strong presence
in both Latin America, with 25 higher education institutions
and 400,000 students, and in the U.S., with Walden University,
a leader in providing advanced degrees to Hispanic students,” said
Dr. David P. López, president of NHU.
“NHU has much in common with Laureate. We share a
focus on student outcomes and on the importance of providing
access to quality higher education for underserved populations.” Dr.
Lopez went on to say “Our board of trustees believes
the partnership with Laureate is vitally important to insure
NHU continues to fulfill its mission of providing access
to quality higher education for the underserved. I have
never been more excited and optimistic about the future
of NHU.”
As a member of the Laureate International Universities network,
NHU will be able to leverage the strategic management,
financial expertise and international strength of a global
network of higher education resources to further extend
opportunities for students and faculty.
