Eugene Garcia, Ph.D.
Eugene Garcia is professor emeritus and former dean of education at Arizona State University's (ASU) College of Education. Prior to his position at ASU, Dr. Garcia was a professor of education at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Garcia, who has published extensively in the area of language teaching and bilingual development, served as a senior officer and director of the Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Languages Affairs in the U.S. Department of Education from 1993 through 1995. He is presently conducting research in the areas of effective schooling for linguistically and culturally diverse student populations. Dr. Garcia's books include Hispanic Education in the United States: Raíces y Alas and Student Cultural Diversity: Understanding and Meeting the Challenge.

Alison Gopnik, Ph.D.
Alison Gopnik is a professor of psychology and affiliate professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley. She is an internationally recognized leader in the study of children's learning and development and the first to argue that children's minds could help us understand deep philosophical questions. She was one of the founders of the study of "theory of mind," illuminating how children come to understand the minds of others, and she formulated the "theory theory," the idea that children learn in the same way that scientists do. She is the author of more than 100 articles and several books, including The Scientist in the Crib: What Early Learning Tells Us About the Mind (co-authored with Andrew Meltzoff and Patricia Kuhl) and the recently published The Philosophical Baby: What Children's Minds Tell Us About Love, Truth, and the Meaning of Life. The Scientist in the Crib was a San Francisco Chronicle best-seller and has been translated into 20 languages.

Rosa Milagros Santos, Ph.D.
Rosa Milagros Santos is an associate professor for early childhood special education at the University of Illinois. Previously, Dr. Santos was project coordinator/co-principal investigator for the Early Childhood Research Institute on Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services, Special Education, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Santos has published articles on the impact of culture, race, and language in the delivery of services to young children (birth to 5 years old) with disabilities and their families. Currently, her research examines parent-child interactions across cultures in order to contribute to the knowledge base of the roles mothers play in their children's development and the roles played by fathers in enhancing positive maternal and child outcomes.

Louise Derman-Sparks
Louise Derman-Sparks, professor emeritus at Pacific Oaks College, is the author and co-author of several books, including Anti-Bias Curriculum: Tools for Empowering Young Children (National Association for the Education of Young Children); Teaching/Learning Anti-Racism: A Developmental Approach (Teachers College Press); In Our Own Way: How Anti-Bias Work Shapes Our Lives and Future Vision, Current Work: Lessons from the Culturally Relevant Anti-Bias Education Leadership Project (Redleaf Press), and numerous articles and book chapters. Her most recent book, co-authored with Dr. Patricia Ramsey, is What If All the Kids Are White?: Anti-Bias/Multicultural Education With Young Children and Families (Teachers College Press). She currently serves as a core organizer/trainer for Crossroads Antiracism Organizing & Training and on the National Diversity Advisory Board Council of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Raymond Hernandez
Raymond Hernandez has more than 29 years of experience in the field of early childhood education and has held key positions in several nonprofit organizations throughout California, operating programs such as Head Start, Early Head Start, General Child Care, Migrant Child Care, and State Preschool. Throughout his career, he has focused on developing systems that help effectively manage and operate programs and ensure that measurable outcomes are attained while keeping the focus on quality services provided to children and families. Hernandez is the former executive director of the University of Southern California School for Early Childhood Education. He currently serves as vice president of facilities and operations at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, a network of high-performing charter schools serving preK–12 students in the MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
